Energy and Change

Sources of Energy

Renewable and Non-Renewable Sources of Energy

Work- Pull or Push thins to make it move

Energy is needed to make everything work

You push a ball, you are giving energy to make the ball move

Sources of energy

Sources of energy has energy stored

Sun has stored energy, changed into heat and light

Non-Renewable energy can't be replenished

Eg. Coal, Crude Oil, Petroleum, Uranium

Renewable energy can be replenished

Eg. Wind, Solar, Water, Biofuel

Wind- Uses wind to turn a turbine... starts a generator

Water- Water falling turns a turbine... starts a generator

Solar- Sunlight shines on solar panels... goes to battery and provides energy

Bio Fuel- Suns energy is stored in plants... Sugar cane can be turned into alcohol and used as fuels...

Fast growing trees... Wooden chips are heated at high temp... turns into tarry liquid.. makes gas ten burned to make electricity

Potential and Kinetic Energy

Elastic Potential Energy

Eg. Stretch a Elastic band...

Position Potential Energy

Not on floor... Falls from something

Chemical Potential Energy

Eg. Wood burning needs... called chemical reaction

Law of Conservation of Energy

Energy cannot be created

Energy cannot be destroyed

Energy can only be changed from one form to another
