Blood Supply of the Heart's Great Blood Vessels, CA: coronary arteries…
Blood Supply of the Heart's Great Blood Vessels
Origin of CA: ascending aorta
Supply of RCA
SA node, AV node, RA, most RV, posterior 1/3 IVS
Mechanism: blood supply of CA (+) during diastole, (-) during systole
aorta recoil after systole forces semilunar valves shut --> entry of blood into CA
Supply of LCA
Bundle of His, R & L bundle branch, anterior 2/3 IVS, most LA, LV
Coronary Dominance
70% Right dominance
not as risky bc left coronary can still supply the most important pump: anterior IVS
some is Left dominant
dangerous, bc both post and ante IVS is supplied by left, it requires only left to fail to cause total heart supply failure
Venous Drainage
60% drains to coronary sulcus
includes: great,middle,small cardiac veins
40% drains to two small opening between RA and inferior vena cava
includes: venae cordis minimi (smallest cardiac veins), anterior cardiac veins
Clinical Signifance
Angioplasty
catheterization from femoral artery --> aorta --> LCA
Angiography
used to determine extent of damage and diagnose obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD)
Angina Pectoris
CA: coronary arteries
IVS: interventricular septum
artery that supplies posterior IVS is called coronary dominance
