However, with no Primarch to raise a dissenting voice, and thus give the Blood Angels a preferential choice at the conclave, those left to command the remnants of the IX would have been forced to capitulate, had Raldoron and Azkaellon not seen the wisdom in this decision by the "Avenging Son;" for among the Loyalists forces that fought during the Siege of Terra, they had been dealt the most grievous of blows, having lost their own progenitor, Sanguinius, the "Great Angel," to the wrath of the Warmaster.
However, while officially recorded as having been broken up into a "Progenitor" Chapter and five "Successor" Chapters, a sixth was formed in secret at the behest of Azkaellon, a hidden hand with which to bring extinction to the Traitors and any who might yet turn from the Emperor's Light. To the three surviving members of the Ofanim did Azkaellon entrust with this task, the order of the "Burning Eyes" having formerly been the secret police of the IX Legion, those charged with rooting our signs of the Primarch's shame and removing such a stain from his honor with cold detachment.
Now more than ever, Azkaellon could see the need for their grim task, for even among the noble Sons of the Blood, heretics were to be found; ghouls who had fully lost themselves to the sanguine thirst that plagued their genetic lineage, and embraced the dark gods who had sought to drown the galaxy in anarchy and blood. Into obscurity would these brothers be cast, there to skulk through the coming centuries, rather than stand triumphant in glory, their hands forever stained a rich arterial hue.
