Path:
Segmental transmural necrotizing inflammation
Fibrinoid necrosis
Kawasaki Disease
80% of patients < 4 years. Coronary arteries
Clinical presentation:
CRASH and BURN
Conjunctival injection, Rash, adenopathy, strawberry tongue, hands/feet erythema, FEVER
Path:
Segmental transmural necrotizing inflammation. Fibrinoid necrosis is less prominent than in PAN.
Large Vessel Vasculitis
Giant cell arteritis
> 50 years, Temporal arteries
Clinical presentation:
Headache
Jaw claudication
Vision loss
Key points:
Halo sign (ultrasound)
Increased ESR
Path:
Granulomatous vasculitis, with multinucleated giant cells
Takayasu arteritis
< 40 years, aorta and branches
Clinical presentation:
Fever
Pulseless disease
Secondary hypertension
Key points:
High ESR
Japanese population
Path:
Mononuclear infiltrates and inflammatory giant cells
Small vessel vasculitis
