Define insects
insects are invertebrates : animals that belong to the phylum Arthropoda. They rely on external sources of heat to regulate their body temperature. They get their energy from pollen, other insects or decayed organic matter.
Types of insects
tThere are many types of insects which are ants, bees, butterflies, beetles, and flies.
Where they come from
They have a life cycle which includes different stages such as egg, larva, pupa and adult. They go through a metamorphosis where they transform from one form to another.
colour and shape
Insects have three main body segments namely head, thorax and abdomen. The head contain the sensory organs, mouthparts and eyes. Wings and legs are attached on the thorax and the abdomen is where the digestive, reproduction and respiratory system takes place.
The exoskeleton support and protect their bodies. Some have wings, mouthparts and antennae that helps them to interacts with the environment and obtain nutrients.
Insects have different types of colours such as brown, green, orange and many more.
Activities
Gather different types of insects and bring them into the classroom to experiment the types, shapes and colours.
