Christopher doesnt see it as lying. As he calls it white lies (Half truths).
But isn't a half truth a lie in some sense?
After finding the book, he decides to tell Christopher the truth, about Wellington.
Ed immediately tells a truth to show that Christopher can trust him to be honest now. Ed also exposes a vulnerable side of himself with the story about Mrs. Shears, showing that he sought love and support and was rejected.
Quotes
And Father said, “Christopher, do you understand that I love you?”
"Don't give me that bollocks...You knew exactly what you were bloody doing. I've read the book remember"
The use of language (swearing), clearly shows his anger about this situation. His red mist.
Everyone has a flaw. Ed's motif (Red mist) indicates that he has anger issues.
I killed Wellington, Christopher.
Owns up to what he had done.
"I think she cared more for that bloody dog than for me, for us."
Reasoning why he killed the dog. He was upset that his wife chose another man and his dog. But that also indicates that he sees his wife's new man like an animal. His anger issues taking a toll on him, by killing the closest resemblance to the man.
We all make mistakes, Christopher.
I'm very proud of you, Christopher.
Ironic, how Ed tells Christopher "Not go around sticking your
*
nose in other people's business." Page or Chap 82
Ironic because he goes through Christopher room, and reads his book.
