- In order to survive, humans have to make generalizations (certain intuition towards things that are common or uncommon to us)
- if we didn´t make any generalizations, we wouldn´t know how to do anything
- We learn by making generalizations based on limited experience
( adaptive, rational and reasonable)
- categories of people = stereotypes
Problem of stereotypes:
- they can be based on biased or limited information
- they can have a negative effect on the people they apply to
- can have inherent in-group vs out-group biases (you think highly of the group you belong with and the opposite)
- they can have moral implications
- The stereotypes (pos or neg) can affect groups or individuals success
- We can manipulate our in order to give the councious self more control
Psychology is a science that studies human behavior and thinking. Psychology therefore studies human activity.
Psychology is an experimental science: for example, human perception, behavior and brain activity can be used experimentally.
Psychology has it´s own concepts, vocabulary and scientific theories.
