Types of transport
Water transport
Tourists use water transport for cruise holidays. Cruises also take place along rivers and across lakes. Ferries provide water transport. These are boats or ships that link places.
Ferries carry tourists and vehicles such as cars and buses between destinations or between different places within a destination.
Ferries often appeal to families who want to travel to a holiday destination in their own car and are a quick and easy way for tourists to cross harbours and rivers within destinations.

Gondolas are a special type of water transport. These are traditional boats used by tourists in the city destination of Venice in Italy.
Air transport
Air transpor is used by domestic and international tourists. Travel by air is often quicker than travel by water, rail or road.
Flying appeals to all tyoes of tourists who want to travel long diistances between countries. International tourists prefer air travel because it is fast.
However, air travel can be expensive, although there are more affordable flights. Cheaper flights icreased the amount of tourists choosing to fly. Budget to flights are often short-haul flights of leess than a few hours.
Air travel can pollute the atmosphere. More sustainable has been made possible using newer, bigger aircraft with more modern engines that create less pollution.
However, some countries have decided to limit domestic travel by air to reduce pollution.
Rail transport
Trains provide rail transport between and within urban destinations. Trains appeal to tourists who want to travel between cities within a country or between cities in neighboring countries
Luxury train services are a leisure tourists product.
Some special interest tourists enjoy traveling in a luxurious train, sometimes through spectacular scenery.
Trams, mass rapid transit (MIRT) and underground railway services appeal to tourists visiting urban (city) destinations.
Road transport
Tourists use road transport to travel to destinations and within destinations. Car travel between destinations appeals to some tourist types, for example, families.
Luxury coach travel appeals to some tourist types including older people and budget travelers. Luxury coach holidays are a tourism product that appeals to older couples.
Inter-city coaches appeal to independent travelers who want to travel cheaply between city destinations.
