Feature of Language
Creating a detailed image in a reader's minds enhances the engagement of the reader as it feels, almost as though they are involved with that type of scenario
Dialogue, allows the reader to understand what a character is like while talking to someone else. It helps the reader evaluate what the character is like in a conversation
If a writer simply uses descriptive language to create a character or setting and such, the effect of this is a greater image for the readers minds and gives more understanding in context to an idea in the story
Plot structure
There can be specific focus on characters, setting feature, objects, or atmosphere.
There can be a number of plot lines that are interwoven together to make the story more interesting and engaging.
To make a story there needs to be a story line and this needs to be in some sort of order. This can be flashbacks, chronological order or even a slice of time
Stories can be told in first, second or third person
The narrator can be a character in the story, or they could be outside the story as an onlooker. This changes the perspective of the story.
The opening paragraph need to be the most engaging as that is what most readers go off to read a book. The author needs to set the scene for the reader to understand the story line better
In a story, there needs to be a climax for the reader to be more engaged and keep reading the book
The ending needs to go off with a bang for the reader to want to read more of the upcoming books
The climax of the story needs to be one of the most engaging parts of the story as it has the most events occur at this stage of the story
Setting
There is a level of description that the reader is given at the very beginning of the text as it creates in image in the reader's mind of where the character/main character is first set
The time, typically, does not matter in the context of a story, but the location is quite important, and it creates an image in the reader's mind as well as gives you an idea how the character would be feeling, relying on this like weather
The setting is important to the story as it creates an atmosphere and tone for the rest of the story
Characters
Things have to be told about the characters to engage the audience and allow them to feel like they can have a connection to the characters
the characters do not have to have significant information about them. Minimal for the characters is fine and allows the reader to form their own opinion.
There can be a singular or number of characters
the character can change and develop throughout the story to become more interesting.
There can be minor or supporting characters that have a role to play in the story.
Title
To engage to reader
has to sound interesting
the meaning of the title of the story can change from the beginning to the end of the story
the start of the story sets the scene and engages the audience.
Theme
The writer wants the reader to feel the story on a personal level, so the reader can connect to the story and the reader can either be entertained, challenged, surprised or persuade
The main ideas are what the writer wants the reader to feel and also understand getting a backstory on the characters
