IMMUNODEFICIENCY DISORDER -disorder of immune sys tthat result in decresed host resistance to infection.
-
-
- Acquired immunodeficiency disorder
-
- Viral infection (e.g AIDS, the HIV virus kills immune cell and cannot make enough CD4. Thus, weakens the immune system)
- Therapeutic drugs (tumour/malignancy can be treated by toxic drugs but these drugs can not differentiate healthy and malignant cell. Other normal proliferating cell also got destroyed in the process) When toxic drugs destroy normal cells that play roles in host immunity and will cause nonspecific immunosuppression
- Malnutrition & disease (severe malnutrition can affect cellular & humoral immunity response) example: deficiencies in specific vitamin/cofactors (e.g: vitamin C, zinc) that needed for optimal functioning of the immune response
- Normal physiological changes (Pregnancy & aging can cause hormonal changes and decrease immune response)
- Abnormal production of immunological effector (Tumour/ malignant can cause abnormal production of immunological effectors)
Phagocytic Disord
- Defect in the synthesis of enzymes or cell surface receptors that cause the phagocytic dysfunction
-
- Chronic granulomatous disease (GCD)
- genetic disorder where phagocytes are unable to kill certain types of bacteria and fungi.
- resulting from either a deficiency or defect in NADPH oxidase complex
- Children with CGD are often healthy at birth but develop severe infections in infancy and during early childhood
-
-
- Multi system deficiency disorder
- susceptible to a variety of pathogens
- Resulting from dysfunction of the neutrophils
- Recognized by the present of giant cytoplasmic granules
- Leukocytes Adhesion Deficiency (LAD)
- Disorder in which phagocytes lack the cell surface molecules
- As a result they cannot migrate to the site of infection
- Patient with LAD present with severe bacteria infection that spread rapidly Especially within the mouth and gastrointestinal fluids
-
- This defect commonly present as recurrent bacterial infection
-
-
-
- Deficiencies in the alternative pathway
- Decay Accelerating factor
