Definition of Insects
Concept 2 Insects have bodies that are divided in segments or sections, they also do not have skeletons in their bodies. insects have 2-6 legs (Wigglesworth, 2023).
-
Concept 1: Insects are members of a larger group called arthropods. this group includes the following Ticks, spiders, bees and praying mentis. (LeafyPlace,2023)

Life cycle of an insects
Concept 2: Most insects have similar life cycle whereby they go through 4 stages which are Egg -->Larve--> Pupa---> Adult.
Activity: Indicating the stages of an insect life cycle on a worksheet in a form of drawings or what they find in their garden at home.
Concept 1: The little caterpillar started as an egg then an insect then went into his house called the cocoon and stayed there for months till he became a butterfly the change that the insect went through in the cocoon it's called metamorphosis (Carle, E. 2021).

What do insects eat?
Concept 2: insects need food in order survive and they use mouthparts for eating food. Ants gather food and takes them to the anthill to share since they work as a group to collect the food.
-
Concept 1: Insects eat a variety of things such as plants, dead plants, other insects, animals, flesh and fungus (Britannica Kids, 2023).
Where do insects live?
Concept 2: Insects need shelter to protect themselves from things that can harm them and to also grow their eggs.
Concept 3: Different types of homes for insects----> Ants - Anthill. Spider- spiderweb . Caterpillar - under the leaves. Bees- Beehive
Copncept 1: Insects live in every environment on Earth, from places such as trees, hives, burrows and water.
Activity: Match insect images with habitat descriptions, such as forest, cave, grassland, desert, stream, or garden
Weather
Concept 1: Temperatures in cold weather directly affects insects' population dynamics. whether it be rain, wind or in winter, they are tiny being that can be washed away and killed by rain and the harsh cold weathers (Filazzola, Matter & Maclvor, 2021).
Concept 2: insects thrive in Temperatures found in hot weather/ seasons. Most insects are able to make their eggs hatch in hot seasons, the is also plenty of food in those seasons too
Concept 3; temperatures affect the insects' behaviours, reproduction rates and feeding habits. Most of the insects hide away in the winter but if the temperatures go back and forth freezing and thawing it could result in them coming out earlier.
Activity: Fnding an Anthill and putting a plate of water to examine if the ants will survive if they climb into it
Conservation of Insects
Concept 1: Make sure to do the following. leave stumps, logs, old trees. Then make some compost to improve the soil quality for insects such as beetles and worms
Concept 2: Make sure to plant more native plants which many insects love (Wyse Guide, 2021).
Activity: planting a tree in the school yard or creating compost for from all the natural foods eaten by the learners. have a compost bin.

Evaluating insect Homes
Concept 1: termites live in burrows that are built from sand and they can be as tall as .... while ants live in anthills which are underground.
Concept 2: insect homes are built out of a lot of materials such as beeswax, sand, leaves, soil, and tree barks (Amanie, A. 2021).
Activity: Creating a spider's home which is a web out of yarn/ strings of wool and spiders out of egg boxes to be placed on the spiderweb
