Learners will be building a bug hotel in a bottle as a hibernation places for insects. They will need a plastic bottle, tape, scissors, string, garden canes and sticks

How do insects harm us.
Mosquitoes carry a disease called Malaria which is dangerous
and can damage a person's live as well as their kidneys(Harmful: insects lesson for kids, n.d.)
Children will be placed in groups and handed 12 insects and two jars. In these jars, one jar will be for helpful insects and the other jar for harmful insects. Children will have to identify a helpful insect and put it in the correct jar and the harmful insect and place it in the helpful insect jar.

Insects like the kissing bug, tsetse fly, mosquitoes, and tick use humans as food sources and pass diseases. This can cause severe health effects. Many of these bugs are not dangerous, but the diseases they carry can create serious health problems worldwide ( Harmful insects: Lesson for kids, n.d.)
Where do insects live
Aquatic insects- Dragon flies, diving beetles, caddisflies(Insects and Other Arthropods, n.d.)
Insects that live on the ground- Ants, beetles, grasshopper, earwig(Insects and Other Arthropods, n.d.)
Children will be making an insect habitat using cocoa powder and water. Children will mix cocoa powder with water to create a sand-like mixture, and place insects that live in the sand in the mixture.
