Number sense refers to a person's intuitive understanding of numbers and their relationships. It involves the ability to comprehend and manipulate numerical information in various forms, including quantities, magnitudes, patterns, and operations. Number sense goes beyond basic arithmetic skills and allows individuals to use numbers flexibly and conceptually in real-life situations.
Numeracy, on the other hand, encompasses a broader set of mathematical skills and understanding. It refers to the ability to use and apply mathematical knowledge in practical contexts to solve problems, reason quantitatively, and make informed decisions. Numeracy includes not only number sense but also other mathematical concepts such as measurement, estimation, probability, statistics, geometry, algebraic thinking, and mathematical reasoning.
