“Characteristics of effective communication”
1) Actors of the communication process
Sender: Initiates the communication by encoding a message.
Message: The information or content being conveyed.
Medium/Channel: The method through which the message is transmitted (verbal, written, non-verbal, digital, etc.).
Receiver: The intended recipient of the message who decodes it to understand the content.
2) Effective communication
Clarity: The message should be clear and easily understandable.
Conciseness: Avoid unnecessary details and keep the message focused.
Active Listening: The receiver should attentively listen to the sender's message.
Feedback: Open communication loop by providing responses or seeking clarification.
Context: Considering the situation, background, and cultural aspects to convey the message appropriately.
3) Hits and misses you have in daily communication
Hits: Successful interactions where your message is understood and well-received.
Misses: Instances where the message is misunderstood, causing confusion or conflicts.
Factors: Noise/distractions, emotional state, assumptions, lack of attention, language barriers.
4) Methods to improve your communication skills
Practice Active Listening: Give full attention to the speaker, avoid interrupting, and ask clarifying questions.
Enhance Nonverbal Communication: Pay attention to body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice.
Improve Vocabulary: Expand your word choice to express ideas accurately.
Empathy: Understand others' perspectives and emotions to communicate more effectively.
Feedback: Seek constructive feedback from others and apply it to your communication.
5) Elements in order to define objectives in communication
Purpose: Clearly define why you're communicating – to inform, persuade, entertain, etc.
Audience: Understand who you're communicating with – their interests, needs, and knowledge level.
Message: Craft a clear and concise message that aligns with your purpose and audience.
Medium: Choose the appropriate channel to convey your message effectively (email, presentation, conversation, etc.).
Desired Outcome: Define what you want to achieve – a decision, understanding, emotional response, etc.
