Events at the time of Speaking
We are learning the Present Continuous Tense

Temporary states
Things that are true at the moment we speak but not always. They will stop being true soon
I'm reading this book at the moment and I need to finish it by next month.
Repeated temporary events
Events that happen regularly, but we believe are temporary.
I'm not drinking much coffee these days because I'm trying to cut it down.
Regular unplanned actions
Actions or events we don't plan but they keep happening.
My wife is always throwing out my stuff.
Plans and arrangements
Plans for the future
We are going on vacation next week
I'm watching the movie this weekend
Change
To talk about gradual change
The economy is slowly improving
Structure
Affirmative form: Subject+am/is/are+verb(ing)+object
Negative form: Subject + are/am/is not+ verb(ing) + Object
Interrogative form: Am/Is/Are + Subject + verb(ing) + Object?
Contractions
Is + not = Isn't
He isn't eating anything
Isn't he working right now?
Are+not = Aren't
We aren't travelling next week
Aren't they working together?
Spelling
General rule
Just add the ing
Verbs that end in 'e'
Remove 'e' and add 'ing'
Make => Making
Only for verbs with two or more syllables
Verbs that have the last syllable stressed and end in vowel followed by consonant
Double the last consonant and add 'ing'
Prefer => Preferring
Verbs that end in 'l'
Double the 'l' and add 'ing'
Control => Controlling
Note: there are exceptions in American English. Travel => Traveling
