        The concept of human rights has become so vast, that the rights themselves reach the point of being incommensurable. So much can be couched as a human rights claim that it threatens to subsume entirely the habits and practices of democratic deliberation; or at least on issues where we hold the moral substance of people in our hands, for example the Voice to parliament issue in Australia.
        
        On issues such as these we sharpen our deliberations to the extent that they are not convenient or relaxed, and run the risk of isolating or curtailing that which is personal in political deliberations. The issues become so laden with morally inflected language, that the rights become Rights with a capital R and the spectrum of acceptable disagreement on them is narrowed so much as to threaten democracy itself.
