Fundamentals of Philippine Folk Dance
What is this?
There's three parts in this:
Arm Position
It can be combined with different feet positions to create a wide range of dance movements.
These are the positions that the arms can take while dancing.
Feet Position
Both Arm and Feet Position
These are the basic positions in Philippine Folk Dance. This can be found on most folk dances.
Why should I learn about this?
These positions provide a foundation for many other arm movements
And foot movements in dance.
How?
Arm Position
First Position
Raise your arms in front of you
Arms are curved sidewards.
Hands are facing towards you.
Second Position
Raise both your arms side wards with arms curved
Palms are facing upward position.
Hands are at shoulder level.
Third Position
This is direction dependent
If you are doing the right variation, your right arm should be raised over your head, while your other arm is at shoulder level.
If you are doing the left variation, your left arm should be raised over your head, while your other arm is at shoulder level.
Fourth position
One arm is raised forward.
Arm is curved sidewards
While the other arm is rounded and your palm is over year head.
Fifth Postion
Raised both your arms upward
Slightly bend your elbow.
Initial
Hands
The three fingers are connected to each other
index finger points out
Body
Straight and tall pose.
Feet positon
First Position
Put feet together
Do the 45 degree angle, to your feet.
Second Position
Strike your one of your leg side wards.
The distance of your leg is about hip-width apart.
Third Position
From the leg that you struck with, put that foot's heel touching the arch of the back foot.
Fourth Position
One foot is placed about a foot's length.
Fifth Position
Put the heel of the front foot touching the toe of the back foot.
Lastly, when going back to first position, the target is having your feet together without the 45-degree angle.
You must do a circular rotation from fifth position to feet together.
