Symptoms: unexplained injuries, being extremely apologetic, anxiety, depression, social withdrawal
Potential Classroom Impacts: The student may become extremely withdrawn and unwilling to interact with their classmates. Alternatively, the student may respond by acting out in class or by attempting to bully their classmates. Either way, the student is liable to lose motivation to learn or improve.
Potential responses: creating a psychologically safe environment, creating opportunities for positive interactions with peers, help the student become more aware of their own feelings, contacting child support services

Symptoms: Student may be tired physically and emotionally from moving homes between mother/father
Potential Classroom Impact: May not want to participate in class/May fall behind with assignments/May become irritable and short-tempered with peers and teacher
Response/Strategies: One-on-one to find out if there is a way to support my student/ Reach out to the Guidance Office and find out if they have support and resources for my student.

Potential Classroom Impacts: Inability to complete assignments and/or class activities; Disruptive behaviors; Unwillingness to participate in group activities
Symptoms: Unable to focus/ lack of concentration; Frequent crying/depression; Anger/frustration outbursts; Lethargy
Response Strategies: Understanding; Empathy; Extra time to complete tasks; Opportunity to talk about pet and have a bit of a ceremony and help others deal with the loss of a pet and to feel included and not so alone; Allowing time to go to reset area when needed.

Emotional difficulties: increased anxiety, mood swings.
Classroom Impact: Emotional distress, Disrupted Learning, Incomplete assignments, decline in academic performance
Response/ Strategies: Creating safe and supportive environment, listening and validating their experiences, offering support and reassurance, connecting with support services.

withdrawal, avoiding social interactions, annoyed or angry, lower confidence or self-image, anxiety, depression
Classroom Impact:
refuse to collab/communicate, lack of energy, drop in academics, missing attendance, outbursts, reserved, distant from friends
Response/Strategies:
collab. groups are set by the teacher, assigned seating or space to create safety and security, reach out to parents and counselors to discuss accommodations/adjustments, incorporate digital citizenship into lesson plans to teach respect and responsibility online, student led projects on anti-bullying or friendship

Symptoms: Students may get frustrated by grades, may be very alert in class, may get stressed if they do not understand immediately
Potential Classroom Impacts: The students may become highly competitive or tease students who are not as good at something, the students may get visibly upset at grades or material they don't understand
Response: The teacher can emphasize that learning is a process and that we want growth, not perfection. The teacher may have some projects that are more of a pass/fail system, where if the students work, they pass
