Saul
Taken from home at young age
Becoming assimilated by residential school into society
Head was shaved and was given scratchy clothes that were to big
Mentally and physically abused
Manipulated and sexually abused by someone he trusted
Experienced racism everywhere after leaving the school for being Indian
Picked on for his size while playing hockey

Father Leboutillier introduced hockey to him, which made Saul become closer to him, but only led to him becoming sexually assaulted
Traumatized him so badly that it was blocked out of his memory and hard took years later for him to truly accept what had happened
Iron sister, strapped, whipped, mouth washed out with soap
Many childrens names were changed
They were punished if they spoke their Native tounge
Was hunted from the bush since he was an Indian boy, so often times he had to hide
His brother was taken first
His brother escaped, only to die soon after which was very emotional for Saul
What did this result in?
Many children died
This resulted in hundreds of unmarked graves in the "Indian Yard"
By suicide because they thought that dieing was better than staying at that school
Due to hard labour
Went to the Iron sister, only never to be seen again
Saul turned to alcohol as an escape
Ervin Sift takes him in to help
Saul was doing better and begun working and living with him
Relapsed and left
Ended up in the hospital
Saul's moral compass was destroyed as he was plagued by the ghosts of his past, including the pain of residential school experiences and the loss of his family, identity, and family.
He became miserable and enraged
Journey to healing
Went to the New Dawn Center to turn his life back around
Became sober
He says he needs to go somewhere, but isn't sure why
leaves the New Dawn Center and makes his journey to Gods lake
Returned to Manitouwadge
Reunites with the Kelly's and old moose teammates
Plays hockey for the first time in years with his old teammates
Slowly begins to build a new life

He sees his family members in a vision coming towards him in boats
Saul's great-grandfather informs him in this vision that he has come to this place to learn how to live with God's Lake in his heart. Saul understands that in order to survive, he must get over his agony.
