parable of the weeds #1

After parable of sower

beautiful field ... but

4 types of soil

Now about good soil

path

stony

thorns

good soil

'enemy' sowed darnel (ryegrass)

damage the harvest - benefit the enemy

Grew up with the good seed

compete - may be like thorns - but so similar impossible to separate

'should we pick them out?'

'No - let them grow - we'll separate later'

roots intermingled (weeding) (can't use weedkiller)

tells the reapers

Disciples ask for explanation

The owner

It's 'his' field

the one who sows is the owner

son of man = Jesus

it's his world

the enemy

the spoiler

wants us to be god's enemy

the seed = people

Two kinds

those with god

those against god

the field = the world

the question - why weeds? Didn't you sow good seed?

Why evil?

How could god allow ...?

Assumed god would end evil

Jesus came with grace - not judgement

judgement comes later

growth

evil will grow alongside good

is the world getting better?

The harvest

world = seeds and weeds

Can we 'bring in the kingdom'?

Can we uproot the weeds?

No - that's god's work

live and grow where we are
