Giving kids a "cute picture" to work on

Dewey was an American educator who was most influenced on thinking about education in the United States

Dewey began his career as a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Michigan.

Dewey met his wife Alice while teaching at the University of Michigan.

Alice was very influenced in Dewey future due to her interest in social issues and how they can impact in education.

They both worked together to determine the best support for education in America.

Dewey established the Dewey's Lab at the University of Chicago.

The Lab school served as a facilitator of the progressive of education movement.

It also provided a vast amount of education research.

The work of John Dewey

He believed children are best at activitly doing things.

Education should involve real life material.

Experience

Encourage Experimental

Independent Thinking

Dewey also felt that education should provide a training ground so that a child can learn.

The teachers role according to Dewey

Teachers should engage not simply on training individuals

Proper social life

Dewey believed that teachers not only should teach subject matter

Life Skills and how to be part of society

Teachers should not only teach individuals children but shape for society.

Dewey believe if you give a child a "cute picture" doesn't mean they will enjoy this.

Teachers need to ask when planning activities

How will this help with children that already know?

How will this activity help children grow?

What skills are children developing with these activities?

How will this help children know their world?

Dewey would have not agreed on how teaching is now how structed it is and what standards they have to apply to.
