B5 - Communicable Disease
There are two types of disease
Communicable disease - They are diseases that can be spread between humans. eg:flu
Non-Communicable disease - Diseases that can't be spread. eg: Cancer
Pathogens - They are what causes us illness and are viruses, fungus, bacteria.
There are many body defences. This includes Trachea and Bronchi, Nose and Skin, Clots and scabs.
Disinfectants kill bacteria's, viruses, and other microbes that are in different areas of your house.
Antimicrobials and Antiseptics kill most microbes
No medicine would kill all microbes in our body.
Don't want to wipe out all microbes as some are needed for digestions growth and defence.
More bacteria living on and in you than cells
Anti-microbial chemicals sometimes come from plants.
Phytochemicals toxic to humans in some concentrations and come from plants.
Plants have been specifically bred with less phytochemicals for medicine and are useful.
Protected from phytochemicals by enzymes.
Natural anti-bacterial come from plants and are extracted.
Antibiotics kill bacteria
Bacterias become resistant to anti-biotics
Anti-biotics destroy the cell walls of bacteria removing the bacteria.
White Blood cells ingest pathogens
Body makes anti-bodies to diseases that enter the body.
Once pathogen enters the body and gets past the primary defence white blood cells then takeover.
Viruses don't have cell wall to destroy so anti-biotics don't work against them.
