To what extent is racial/gender/class* inequality still a serious problem in your society
today?
In today's society, the notion of gender has remained a defining factor for one's treatment and opportunities in their life. However, there are instances where one gender is still preferentially treated as compared to another in different facets of society. These problems arise due to the pre-conceived abilities and capabilities of each gender. As such, there still exists a gender gap in specific fields or industries in society. Actions to eliminate and address that inequality has been made but the notion still remains a heated issue of today.
In Singapore, where merits is based on one's capabilities and abilities, gender discrimination is more vivid and concerning. Though debates in parliament has made progress in addressing skill gaps but little progress has been made to address more potent issues like wage gap and treatement. This thus makes gender inequality a relevant and serious problem that needs to be addressed as its effects on industry, income and treatment for different genders in society.
