To what extent have urban design strategies throughout the residential suburbs of Adelaide, Australia been able to reverse the impacts of the urban heat island effect and the formation of urban microclimates?
-
AIM: To examine the presence of UDS that mitigate microclimate warming
- H1:The number of urban design strategies identified, that aid microclimate mitigation, will be
greater within the residential area of Lightsview in comparison to St Clair.
- Primary information: Mitigation strategies index
- Sampling strategy:
- Presentation of data:
- Statistical analysis:
Aim: To compare and analyse climatic data and 'cooling' between suburbs.
- H2: Climatic data measurements will be favorable respectively towards the residential suburb
of Lightsview, showcasing it to be “cooler” when placed in comparison to St Clair.
- Primary information: temp, dew point values, wind speed
- Sampling strategy:
- Presentation of data:
- Statistical analysis:
Aim: To evaluate individual UDS impact on mitigating microclimates
- H3: When placed in evaluation, certain particular urban design strategies hold a greater impact
within mitigating the microclimates seen in the residential areas of Lightsview and St Clair.

Criterion
Criterion C: The data must be analysed and presented in such a way that the argument leading to the conclusion is supported and clarified.
- Maintain a focused (on RQ), reasoned, logical argument
-
-
More analysis (cause and effecting, making connections to hyps, question...) and evaluation (significance of findings, real world implications, critical evaluation of research)
- Students must comment on the reliability, quantity, balance and quality of their research, including their own data collection and published material.
