As listed in the Introduction to Christianity, one of the "Most Important Part's" of Christianity, is APOSTOLIC SUCCESSION and I would very much agree with that statement. Apostolic Succession is "The teaching that bishops represent a direct, uninterrupted line of continuity from the first Apostles of Jesus Christ. According to this teaching, bishops possess certain special powers handed down to them from the Apostles; these consist primarily of the right to confirm church members, to ordain priests, to consecrate other bishops, and to rule over the clergy and church members in their diocese." -[Britannica]. I find it to be essential to Christianity because...
"If a church cannot trace its history back in an unbroken line, step by step, from the present to the Apostles, it is not considered to be a true Church."
"It involves the careful selection of new bishops to carry on the faith."
"Apostolic succession is the belief that bishops have a direct, uninterrupted line of authority from the first apostles of Jesus Christ."
"It guarantees the unfalsified transmission of doctrine and makes manifest the organic connection between the Church today and the Church of the Apostles."
"Apostolic succession is based on the commissioning of the apostles by Christ and their passing on of their apostolic authority to their successors." - (Britannica)
" The 12 apostles, also referred to as the 12 disciples or simply “the Twelve,” were Jesus Christ’s 12 closest followers. Each of them were major leaders in the movement which became Christianity and helped spread the gospel throughout the world" - (Overviewbible.com)
