Complications of postpartum hemorrhage include orthostatic hypotension, anemia, and hypovolemic shock. PPH has also been reported to cause rarer complications, such as anterior pituitary ischemia, lactation failure, and delusional coagulopathy. Apart from complications from disease conditions, PPH also has the risk of causing complications due to peripartum hysterectomy surgery. Risk factors for peripartum hysterectomy are high maternal age, previous cesarean section, multiple pregnancies, placenta previa, placenta accreta, and severe PPH.
