Formative
Definition: Formative assessments is to monitor student learning to provide ongoing feedback that can be used by instructors to improve their teaching and by students to improve their learning. More specifically, formative assessments help students identify their strengths and weaknesses and target areas that need work
Quizzes: Give students quizzes, which either you mark or they mark. You can use the information gathered from the quizzes to guide your instruction or to give the feedbackto the students.
Write it Down: Have students write down the explanation of what they understand. Read these explanations to help them with your instruction and write comments on the back to give them feedback.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Interim assessment is a test administered at different intervals during the school year to check students’ grasp on content and guide future instruction.Interim assessments are sometimes called “benchmark assessments,” but there is a slight difference. Benchmark assessments are given periodically, whereas interim assessments don’t necessarily follow a schedule.
Extended Essay: Gives students an opportunity to undertake independent research into a topic of special interest to them within the subject. It is intended to promote advanced research and writing skills, intellectual discovery and creativity.
Chapter Test: Provide a formative assessment tool for educators to measure chapter concept mastery, and allow students to review the chapter materials prior to an in-class chapter test developed by the educator. The tests can be found at the end of every chapter in the textbooks.
Summative
Definition:summative assessment is to evaluate student learning at the end of an instructional unit by comparing it against some standard or benchmark they are often high stakes, which means that they have a high point value.
Midterm Exam: Mid-term is a test that a student takes halfway through a school term. By taking a mid-term, students have a better idea of whether they're advancing in a class or whether they need to make changes to their study habits.
Final Project: Final project assignments encourage students to summarize and revisit material from throughout the semester and put it together in a form that demonstrates their own personality and creative sensibilities.
Performance
Definition: An approach to educational assessment that requires students to directly demonstrate what they know and are able to do through open-ended tasks such as constructing an answer, producing a project, or performing an activity.

Self-Assessment: Assessment or evaluation of oneself or one's actions and attitudes, in particular, of one's performance at a job or learning task considered in relation to an objective standard.
Diagnostic
Definition: Sets of written questions multiple choice or short answer that assess a learner's current knowledge base or current views on a topic/issue to be studied in the course.
Running Records: Allow you to assess reading behavior as students read from developmentally appropriate texts.
KWL Chart: It allows the teacher to find out the students prior knowledge on a particular topic. From this knowledge the teacher is then able to gear their lessons based upon this information.
