Assessment

Summative
Definition: Evaluate student learning at the end of a unit. These are usually "high stakes" meaning they count as a major part of their final grade.

Final Project: Gives the student the opportunity to demostrate the knowledge they have learned and it allow them to put it into their own words.
Performance
Definition: Applying and showing what the student has learned from a unit and putting their knowledge into various forms of assessment. With these assessments students are able to demonstrate their knowledge instead of taking a written test.

Formative
Definition: Process of gathering evidence for student learning, providing feedback, and adjusting insturction strategies to enhance achievement.
Homework: This can be used as review for exams or class discussions. This gives students the opportunity for them to find the information outside of class and prepare questions they need help answering.
Q&A sessions: By doing a Q&A session at the end of a lesson this gives students a chance to ask questions about the current lesson. It also opens the door for discussion between classmates and teachers.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Periodic testing of students, not a major grade, and usually has little to no feedback. These types of assesment also show if a student in on track for the future.
STAAR: Standardized test given in the state of Texas which test each student on their individual knowledge learned in the current school year.
Pop Quizzes: Students will take pop quizzes to test their knowledge of the current lessons. This gives the teacher a look into what each student has learned over the course.
Diagnostic
Definition: Pre-assessment that students take which gives the teacher/instructor how much their students know about a certian subject. This also allows for teachers to evaluate student's strengths and weaknesses.
Pre-Test: giving students a pre-test will help the teacher to see what their students know about a particular subject.
Self-Evaluation: allows for students to let their teacher know what they know about a subject and how they feel about it.
