Formative
Definition: This is away to conduct in-process assessments to get feedback that allows teachers to identify strengths and weaknesses. Formative assessments improve student achievement as they learn.
Example 1: Concept map this allows the teacher to identify if the students are understanding the main topics.
Example 2: Exit tickets allow th teacher to ask 1-3 questions over the lesson, so they can review or move on to the next unit.

Summative
Definition: is given at the conclusion of a specific instructional period to test the student to determine whether and to what degree students have learned the material they have been taught.
Example 1: STARR is a state standardized test to assess the students knowledge/ achievement per grade level.

Interim/Benchmark
Definition: a technique used to evaluate student competency and performance in a specified area of study.

Dianostic
Definition: sets of written questions (multiple choice or short answer) that assess a learner's current knowledge base or current views on a topic/issue to be studied in the course.
