Diagnostic
Definition: Diagnostic Assessments are used as a type of pre-assessment to determine the individual strengths and weaknesses as well as misconceptions of each student. This data can help a teacher prepare there future plans of instruction to meet the needs of each student.
Journal Entries: Teachers can ask a few questions while students write down their responses in their journals.
Informal Verbal Questioning: the teacher calls up a few students and ask them to share what they know about a specific subject.
Formative
Definition: A Formative assessment is how students are assessed for a teacher to gain feedback in order to adjust instruction and lessons. These types of assessments hold less weight for students grades sometimes even no value.
Traffic Light: Use Green, Yellow and Red post-its. Students can write on each post-it what they understand, somewhat understand and do not understand any part of. On the back of the yellow and red post-it they can write in detail where they are confused.
Exit ticket: Allows students to express what or how they are thinking about new information and help students reflect on what they have learned.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Interim/Benchmark assessments are used to determine where students are within their learning. If they are on track for their grade level compared to other students and if they will do well on future assessments.
ISIP: Istation test that uses a measurement scale that aligns student performance levels with test question difficulties.

Summative
Definition: A Summative Assessment is a way to gauge a students understanding at the end of a unit. These assessments usually have more weight when it comes to students grades.
STAAR: A test designed to show whether a student has mastered specific knowledge of a core subject at a certain grade level
End of Unit Project: students demonstrate mastery of the core content and skills learned in the Project Based Learning Unit.
Performance
Definition: A Performance Assessment is an assessment that requires students to show their performance through a task instead of standard tests or questions.
Science/Art Fairs: Students work on a product or item that will be exhibited publicly. Exhibitions show in-depth learning and may include feedback from viewers.
