filibuster
a tactic used by politicians in debates to stop a bill/law being voted on. The most common tactic is to speak until the deadline for the bill to be passed is reached.

Brown vs Topeaka
Where the NAACP bundled all five school desegregation cases and took them to the supreme court as brown vs Topeka they said that seperat but equal is not fair and the suprem count ruled that the plessy ruling was uncositutional

Demonstrating outside a place you believe is doing something wrong (e.g. discriminating against black people)
montgomery bus boycott
this was an event supposedly planned out by the NAACP following the arrest of Rosa Parks after she refused to give up her seat to a white man. the boycott involved not using the public buses until they changed the law a lot of black people had to walk to work everyday. carpools where set up but didn't provide for every body in the black community. the boycott lasted 318 days before the law was changed that buses should be integrated.

Emmett Till
Emmett till was a 14 year old boy from Chicago who went to stay at some relative in Mississippi. one day his cousins from down south dared him to speak to a white woman to which he did and as caroline bryant was walking out the door Emmett supposedly wolf whistled at her. the next day caroline to her husband what had happened to her and roy bryant (carolines wife) set out that night with his half brother to go hunt down emmitt. they arrived at where emmitt was staying and got emmitt into the back of the truck they then took him further away beat him up shot him and then tied him to a heavy fan before throwing him off a bridge. his mum then insisted on having a open coffin funeral to show a point that blacks don't have enough rights. the two murders were ruled not guilty by an all white jury. the murderers then sold their story to a newspaper for around 3,500 pounds which is about 350,000 pounds in today's money.
Little Rock
Little Rock was a school that was was desegregated it was it first draft of student in and the governor organized troops to stop them and the 101st airborne had to escort the black children into the school
civil right act 1957
This legislation established a Commission on Civil Rights to investigate civil rights violations and also established a Civil Rights Division within the Department of Justice. The Civil Rights Act of 1957 authorized the prosecution for those who violated the right to vote for United States citizens

organisations played a major role in the civil rights movement because they helped plan boycotts sit ins any other forms of peaceful protest they also brought many matters to court and persisted to gain black rights.
