The unit of life :red_flag: :+1:
What is a Cell?
cell is the smallest unit of life
cells need a microscope to be seen
Microscope (P127)
the function is to help us see objects that are too small to be seen with a naked eye
It uses a system of lenses to magnify
simplest living things only have 1 cell, like bacteria, yeast and paramecia
organisms made of many cells are
multicellular organisms
cells make up tissues
, tissues make up organs, organs make up a system and a system make up a multicellular organism!
characteristics of all living things
It can grow, take in food, reproduce and respond to changes in the environment.
Cells come in different shapes, sizes and structures to suit their functions
Diff between animal and plant cell (P127)
animal cells have nucleus, cytoplasm and cell membrane
plant cell have all animal cell parts, a cell wall and chloroplast(only present in leaves)
Functions of different parts of a cell (P128)
cytoplasm
is jelly like substance that allow substances to move around the cell
nucleus
is oval, control everything in the cell and have genes
cell membrane
controls substances going in and out of cell
cell wall give plant cell its shape
chloroplast
contains chlorophyll that trap sunlight and make food :+1:
