Motion controlled Light

ERGONOMICS

Purpose - The purpose is to provide an easy source of light which can be triggered without an extra action having to be used

Comfortability - various colours and patterns can be applied to provide a more comfortable appeal

Experience - The light provides ease of use as a switch is no longer needed, the time can be adjusted and motion can be continually triggered to reset the timer

MAINTENANCE

Part Maintenance - replacement of parts or oiling of parts (if metal) as the fan mostly comprises of plastic.

High Maintenance - The maintenance cost of the fan is relatively cheap do to its mass produced plastic parts which can be made in bulk with ease

Product Maintenance - the product does not require much care as it does not decompose or rust and is mostly a seasonal item to repel the heat

MATERIALS

Sustainability - Electronic components can be reused, likely to be wall mounted or battery powered with some components not being reusable like resistors, plastic no sustainable

Material Finishes - The plastic on the light can be coloured to fit environment with different coloured/ patterned plastic. material may vary

Material Properties - the plastic on the light fixture is usually made from PPE (polypropylene) or a mixture of plastic resins and polymers. (cont.)

AESTHETICS

Colours - base colour is black, customization to be any colour but lighter varieties heat up slower is sunlight which is when this product is used the most

Looks - is is designed with practicality in mind, despite not looking specifically bad, the practicality makes it look better, e.g: 7/10

Visual Feelings - the light can apply visual appeal but tis a sub product as its output means the most, not meant to stand out but can if producer wants

DISPOSAL

Recycleability - the materials are not particularly recyclable as it is mostly comprised of plastics which are difficult to reuse and decompose at a slow pace

Disassembly - it can be assembled and disassembled with ease due to its flat pack craftability, meaning that is comes in parts when bought and must be assembled before it can be used

End Of Life - the batteries within the fan can be replaced, or the parts can be replaced, but in the end the fan has a large chance of ending up at landfill, thus having very low recycleability factors

PROCESSES

Workshop Availability - Materials are cheap and easy to come across, with things like moulds and automation the availability should be a simple procedure

Obscuring Processes - the damage to the environment when producing the plastic needed would likely be left out of production

Difficult Processes - size perfections through automation as its easy to slip up

SIZE

Transportation - due to how simple it is to package the transportation is simple especially with preventatives like bubble wrap

Space - no more than 20 cm BWH which can be transported in mass do to their small size, the product can be removed and worked on easily so space is required to be small.

Size Production - can be mass produced in automation but more specified models must be handmade like higher technology models for more specific intentions like shapes and technological specifics to remove chance of error

QUALITY

Quality - quality of materials fits a quality conformance standard which in this market is not incredibly high grade, but could be negotiated depending on cost, size and company, etc.

Quality:Price - price increases as quality increases and visa versa when decreasing (can very slightly from company to company)

Materials - the plastic on the light is usually made from PPE (polypropylene) or a mixture of plastic resins and polymers. The metal is which is usually cheap to keep costs down can be something like aluminum which when used as small screws and supports can have decent tensile strength for its cheap price, the plastic cover for the bulb filament is normally bad of a transparent material such as

COMPETITION

Price Range - range greatly from £20 - £600 based on size, technology used, etc.

Market availability - The product is on the market but has a specific demand for commercial places, this is not in large demand as its use is specific

LEGAL

Material Approval - unless there are pieces like zinc batteries which contain corrosive materials (as an example) no materials would need to be approved for use

Legalities - no legalities to consider unless after use disposing of materials unlawfully

PERFORMANCE

Abilities - lights up when motion sensor is triggered, light duration resets when motion detector is triggered again, without movement the light turns off, charging/ power source.

Correct Function - lights up a room when a person walks into it, size sensor TBA so an animal wont trigger it as an example

Standards - performs its duties to an industry standard

CUSTOMER

Budget - (broad) £10-40+ stated in competition for different uses and makes

Customer Type - all ranges like in (customer #)

Customer # - businesses with large outdoor areas or companies which employ bathrooms or rooms which are not used often enough or permanent light but need quick in and out application

Similarities - The market is full of similar models with minor differences however functions remain the same for all, just size equates to PS.

WEIGHT

Final weight - is the same as the fully formed wight as it does not require multiple tools to assemble so final weight is not a factor, only the shape (box)

Transportation - easy enough to be handheld so weight is not an issue, not detrimental
