Implementing Curriculum Thread Monitoring - Coggle Diagram
Implementing Curriculum
Thread Monitoring
The Problem
Key Ofsted Question:
How do you know how well
your curriculum is being taught
and learned?
Issues with Subject
Leader Monitoring
How do I 'monitor' a
whole curriculum for
a subject?
Where do I get the time
(even if I'm paid a TLR)?
How well do I know
my subject sequencing?
Consistency
How useful is it
for Teachers?
It's an 'add-on' to
the working week
The Solution
Subject Leaders Identify
'Threads' in their subject's
curriculum map
This is a Key Capability for
successful Ofsted interaction :
For example:
a) Climate Change in Geogrpahy
b) Place Value in Maths
c) Rulers in History
We identify when those threads are
touched upon across the school
throughout the year
The subject leader will, in a
'little and often' manner, monitor
during those touch points
Monitoring activities include:
a) Lesson drop ins (not Obs)
b) Pupil Voice
c) Reviewing Children's Work
d) Quizzing
The Benefits
Subject Leaders become
increasingly expert at
articulating the sequence and
ambition of their subject
Teachers understand more
about what comes before and
after their year group
The monitoring is little and
often, but constant.
There is a constant, ongoing
discussion about curriculum
intent and implementaiton
It fits in the working week
(we use Staff Meeting time)
Consistancy
Continued focus and
discussion about Curriculum,
Teaching and Learning
