3D TECHNIQUES for ANIMATION
POLYGON MODELING
Polygon modeling is the most common type of modeling for video games and animation studios. It builds objects used in the animation by using polys or "tris" which are usually triangles or polygons that make up the general shape.
KEYFRAME ANIMATION
In animation a keyframe is a point which defines the starting and ending points of an animation and is used as a placeholder along a digital strip/timeline
RIGGING
Rigging in animation is known as the computational animation technique where there is a surface layer that appears in the animation being the character/object etc. Then there is the hierarchical set of interconnected parts that follow a skeleton web where each parts is responsible for the given part of the characters / meshes animation. For example in a hand the web of armatures would animate just the hand etc.
POSE-TO-POSE
In pose to pose animation this is a traditional technique used in animation to be able to achieve the character to have a flow movement appearance.
This is done by creating key poses between each frame in order for the character to be able to have this unique way of movement and this method is still used in modern animation today as well as classic animation.
POSING (KEY POSES)
In animation a Key pose is a frame that is used to analyze when there are key parts of the overall animation and what needs to be animated around the key pose.
CLEAN-UP
In an animation the clean-up refers to the rough or unpolished animation getting finished up to look not rough or skeletal but full and vibrant.
This comes from the traditional techniques of animation and its principles are applied in modern animation
Animation Principles
STAGING
This is to put simply the way the characters and scene is set up in a shot and the angle of the camera. This is to make certain emotions clear to the viewer
ANTICIPATION
This is something that tells the audience that something is about to happen for example movement in a certain way that give an expected outcome due to how physics works in real life.
SECONDARY MOTION
These are Flat motions or basic and insignificant motions that are a follow up to the primary main motion of a character such as lifting a leg arm etc.
