THE USE OF MUSIC AND SONGS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE FOUR SKILLS
CONTRIBUTION OF THE SONGS
Learning a second language has been the differential success issue.
Some students progress rapidly, while others struggle and achieve only limited success.
Music in the classroom reduces stress, increases productivity, regulates energy, and creates a supportive and relaxed learning environment.
Classical music produces a relaxed state of mind in the student which increases the student's receptivity to the new language.
It is essential to guarantee low anxiety, self-confidence and high motivation towards the target language to maximize learning.
INTRODUCTION
Research shows that humans learn a lot but retain a small amount of which songs are a part.
The songs make teaching easier for teachers especially when dealing with disinterested students, motivating them to learn a new language.
PRESENTATION OF SONGS
The ideal song is short, slow, and clear; repeats key phrases; grabs students' attention; and teaches natural, engaging language without offending anyone.
Presenting songs in the right way provides a good opportunity for the teacher to build successful activities around them.
SONGS AND THE FOUR SKILLS
Secondary school teachers can use songs as vital teaching tools to develop their students' listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in a relaxed and welcoming classroom environment.
Various activities that the teacher proposes for each skill can be applied using the songs, making the student feel comfortable and confident with the teacher.
CONCLUSIONS
The songs have proven to be good alternatives to break the routine and to learn with fun and improve the skills of the students.
By using songs at least once a week, teachers will have a healthy environment where students are well motivated to learn.
Songs are a very essential part in the daily activities of today's teenagers.
Teachers need to understand the world of their students and use educational and entertaining songs.
