morphology
Definition: The study of meaningful parts of a word.
Examples:
- Suffixes are a part of a word that provide clues as to the word's part of speech.
- Words that end in -tion are usually nouns.

What It Is Like: Morphology is to words as Syntax is to sentences. Breaking apart something to understand the meaning.

disability
Definition: a physical or mental condition that limits a person's movements, senses, or activities.
Examples:
- Physical: having to do with the body
- cerebral palsy: congenital disorder of movement, muscle tone, or posture.
- Impairment: loss of limb, loss of vision, or memory loss
- Mental: having to do with the brain
- schizophrenia: continuous or relapsing episodes of psychosis.
- bipolar: periods of depression and abnormally elevated moods.

prefix
Definition: an affix which is placed before the stem of a word
- affix: an additional element placed at the beginning or end of a root, stem, or word, or in the body of a word to modify its meaning.
Examples:
- mis = wrongly
- If understand is the base word, when we put mis in front of it, it becomes misunderstand which is defined as interpreting something wrongly.
- If lead is the base word, when we put mis in front of it, it becomes mislead which is defined as wrongly leading.
- mono = singular
- If tone was the base word, when we put mono in front of it, it becomes monotone which is defined as singular tone.
- If lingual is the base word, when we put mono in front of it, it becomes monolingual which is defined as singular language.
What It Is Like: Kind of Like Compound Words, but not quite.

Examples:
- Inflectional Suffixes: deals with grammar such as verb conjugation plurality
- adding s or es to a word changes the word from singular to plural such as ball changing to balls or box to boxes.
- adding ing or ed to a word changes the tense of the word
- Derivational Suffixes: change the parts of speech
- adding "ment" to the end of the verb "pay" changes it to payment which is a noun.
- adding "ful" to the noun "color" changes it to colorful which is an adjective.

affix
Definition: an additional element placed at the beginning or end of a root, stem, or word, or in the body of a word to modify its meaning.
Examples:
- prefix: an affix that is placed before the stem of a word
- unhappy: un is the prefix modify happy into NOT happy.
- predetermine: pre before the stem word determine creates the meaning of determining beforehand
- suffix: an affix that is placed after the stem of a word
- construction: construct is the base or stem word and the tion at the end makes the verb into a noun.
