Connections between Stardust, The Tale of Princess Kaguya, and Snow White
Love
In Princess Kaguya, there is love between Kaguya and her childhood best friend Sutemaru. Their love is complicated, seeming as it only comes into affect when they see each other but it is the only real love to her. Their is also love between Kaguya and her parents, which is not common in most fairytales. Kaguyas parents are still together, and they spend most of their adult lives trying to provide Kaguya with the best life possible.
In Snow White, there is love between Snow White and the Prince. Their love is shown in the beginning and then acted on at the end of the movie. It doesn't develop throughout the movie like Stardust because it is introduced in the beginning but they end up getting married and "live happily ever after".
In Stardust, there was love between Tristan and Yvaine. It a love that developed throughout the movie and was expected to happen when they forced spending time with each other. Even though Tristan thought he loved Victoria, he was really in love with Yvain.
Unhappiness
In Kaguya, the unhappiness was caused by her parents. When they moved and took Kaguya away from her friends and then wanted to force her to marry men that she did not want to marry.
In Snow White, the unhappiness to all the characters was caused by the Evil Queen and her attempts to kill Snow White.
In Stardust, the unhappiness was caused by the three witch sisters. They were unhappy and because of their unhappiness, they caused the other characters to live their lives in fear.
Evil
In Princess Kaguya, the evil was Prince Ishitsukuri because he is the one that scared Kaguya into thinking she did not want to be on earth anymore.
In Snow White, the evil was from the Evil Queen and her jealousy of Snow White and how she is the fairest of them all.
In Stardust, the evil was the witches and how they wanted the heart of the star.
Mistakes in life
The mistake made in Princess Kaguya was when she mistakenly wished to go home and that she did not want to be on earth anymore.
The mistake in Snow White was that the Dwarfs did not make it back in time to stop Snow White from eating the apple that put her to sleep.
The mistakes made in Stardust were made by the wall guard. He let Dustan in the first time and then came Tristan and all of his shenanigans. If the wall guard had not let Dustan through in the first place then there would not have been such a fuss on the other side of the wall.
Themes
The theme of The Tale of Princess Kaguya is feminism in a family. The parents are blessed with a baby girl who is their "princess".As she grows older she is not allowed to have childish behavior she has to have manors. When she is an adult her only job is to marry a man.
The theme of Snow White is jealousy. The Evil Queens jealousy causes her to be greedy and ends up with less than she had to begin with. While Snow White lives happily ever after the Evil Queen does not.
The theme of Stardust is stepping out of your comfort zone. If Tristan hadn't stepped out of his comfort zone to win Victorias love, he wouldn't have found the love of his life, his mom, became kind, and start his family. He would not have found his true happiness.
Humans + Nature
In Stardust, there are the regular humans, like Victoria and Dustan and then there are the humans with magical powers or that have links to the magical world like Tristan and Yvaine. There is a long brick wall that separates the two worlds with a wall keeper that keeps people from going in and out.
In Princess Kaguya, there is Kaguya who is a person from the moon and then the moon people and then there are all of her earth people like her parents and her home friends.
In Snow White, the Seven Dwarfs, whore are coal miners, help her live and hide from the evil queen. they provide her with a place to live and food to eat. They are very isolated in the forest away from any other communities.
Happiness
In Stardust, happiness is achieved by the main character, Tristan, when he has the realization of who he is in love with and can live knowing she is safe and they will live together forever. His happiness didn't come from being crowned king, or finding his mother. It was achieved when he confessed his undying love for Yvaine.
In Princess Kaguya, there was no happiness. She was taken away from her childhood friends and then was put into schooling that she did not like. Then when she was older, her parents tried to marry her off to a bunch of prestigious men that she did not like. The one man that she did love she could not be with and then she was taken away from earth. There was only temporary happiness and not long lasting happiness.
In Snow White, the characters were able to pursue their happiness once they knew that they were safe from the Evil Queen and when Snow White and the Prince got married.
Movie style
The movie style of Princess Kaguya was different and unexpected. It was more focused on Kaguyas epiphany at the end. There was no happily ever after or a evil higher power or a man that saved the Princess. It was very different from most fairy tales but there was still a good lesson that was learned at the end and it was that Kaguya was a moon person.
Snow White is an original fairytale that everyone knows. It is one of the most generic fairytales. I have a bias because I love Snow White and the movie is a comfort movie, like most Disney movies are. The style is very old and animated.
The movie style of Stardust was focused on being a generic fairytale. There was two characters that fell in love with the difficulty of doing so caused by a higher evil power. They were not happy until that higher evil power was defeated and they could "live happily ever after"

Goodness
In Princess Kaguya, the goodness was Kaguya. She blessed her parents with a child. She was a gift from the moon people.
In Snow White, the good was the love between Snow White and the Prince. That is what saved Snow White from her sleep.
In Stardust, the goodness was caused by the stars and the powers that they had.
