1 THE POLITICAL SITUATION
Monarchs introduced -> Validos.
Felipe III: The Duke of Lerma (1598–1618).
Spain made peace.
Felipe IV: The Count-Duke of Olivares (1622–1643).
Spain was less stable.
CARLOS II (1661–1700)
European territories were lost.
Problems of succesion.

Charles of Austria (son of Emperor Leopold I)
He was choosed by Carlos II.
Caused -> the War of the Spanish Succession (1700–1713).

Now nobility, refused to work.
Bandits and outlaws
Worked in gangs, rob people.
