Thre had to be a demilitarized and disarmed Germany under four zones of Allied occupation
German society was to be remade along democratic lines by repeal of all discriminatory laws from the Nazi era and by the arrest and trial of those Germans deemed to be “war criminals".
Disagreed On
How to deal with Germany. A new president did not agree with what the old president had said and thought this was exactly what had sparked the Nazis.
Russia gianed land in Poland and therfore land had to be taken from Germany. The rest of the Allies thought Russia was pushing it.
Yalta Conference
Allies Agreed On
Germany should pay for reperations (half would go to Russia) and that it would be divided up into 4 zones: British, French, American and Russian.
All AllIes would form the newly created United Nations
Russia would enter war with Japan.
Capitalism
Election: the president and congress are elected by the people-this is called democracy.
Economy: Capitalism meant that property and business were owned by private individuals and companies.
Rights:the USA was the richest country in the world but there were extremes between wealth and poverty. For Americans, the rights and freedoms of an individual were more important than equality.
Communism
Election: the Soviet Union was a one party state. There were elections, but people could only elect communists.
Economy: Industry was organised and run by the state. Unemployment and extreme poverty was rare, but the average standard of living was lower than the Americans.
Rights:Comunists believed that the rights of an individual were less important than the good of society of a whole.
