Chemistry C1
States of matter
Its all about energy and attraction between molecules. Not between atoms in a covalent bond, but the molecule they make up.
-
Gas
Liquid
Solid
-
Strong forces of attraction between particles. Held close together in fixed positions unable to move independently, only to vibrate.
-
Weaker forces of attraction between particles. Arranged randomly and free to move (more with heat). They still tend to stay mostly together
Indefinite shape, definite volume.
No forces of attraction between particles. Separated and free to move far apart. Travel in a constant random motion of straight lines

Air Pollution
-
Reducing pollution
Harmful chemicals can be removed before emitted into the atmosphere via Acid gas scrubbers on power stations; catalytic converters on cars to remove nitrogen oxides.
Sticky clumps of carbon (soot) from incomplete combustion cause respiratory issues and cover buildings

Water sources
Surface water
Groundwater
Seawater
Used in freshwater scarse areas. Requires desalination using distillation or high pressure filtration with a fine membrane.
-
Collected from rivers, lakes, reseviours ect. needs some treatment
