dna replication - Coggle Diagram
dna replication
-
initiation at the origin of replication(site of the starting point of dna replication, provides an opening called a replication bubble that opens up to form 2 replication forks)
-
-
-
termination
prokaryotes-straightforward, termination of dna replication when replication forks meet each other at the other side since they are circular chromosomes
eukaryotes have linear chromosomes, cannot terminate dna replication at the 3' end
lagging strands cannot terminate replication as there is no space to attach primer, so the last primer cannot be replaced because there are no more okazaki fragments
-
Elongation
dna polymerase III attaches to primed dna strand and synthesises new dna strand beyond the rna primer
-
-
semiconservative model:dna replication produces new dna molecules with 1 parental and 1 daughter strand
