the tsars rule
the wittes economic reforms
focus on state capitlalism
1891- introdcutaion of tariffs to protect domastic goods
led to increase in prcies as goods became scarce
rouble on the gold standard to encourage foreign investment
led to the rice in prcies as traders had to still make a profit
emphasis on the production of coal a nd iron - capital goods
also allowed the russia to grow as a military power as they could use capital goods for this
there was found an increase in coal gas and iron
foocus on capital goods meant that there was a neglect of light industry so not mdoernised
ineffective as in 1905- still 13995 strikes
transsiberain railway produiction
not complete in 1914 so innefective at allowing migration development
allowed exploitation of the far east
taxation levied
caused high resentment from peasants who couldnt afford it
emphasis on foregin loans and investment
ineffective as became too reliant
ineffective as still lagged economcilly
workers acquire dlittle due to weak trade unions and little legalprotection so didnt benefit
limited- no focus on agriculture
the limitation of oppositon
relied on workers - 2% of populatin
peasants made up 80% of population but they were distributed over a large land and so due to primite communication and bad transport between the rural land settlements they failed to politically radically educate the peasants
tehre was a lack of education- literacy of the population from a 1897 consensus was 21% so therefore the liverls methods of pamphhleteering was ineffective
they were underground due to illegality of opposituiobn parties so therefore it was hard to gain supprot
the intelligensia leaders of the opposition couldnt empathise with the hardships of peasants and workersdue to class division so therefore hard to gain support for example sds and srs only had 40-50000 supprot members
conflict between the parties of oppostion
repression- okhrana / paramilitary corps and soldiers and army meant that they couldnt do much
1901- 13 demonstrators killed in students riot
okranha - they suppressed opposion thr9ough causing -peasatnry fear / censorship/ torture/ infiltrating enemy networks - small - only 2500 and 1/3 in st petersburg
casues of the 1905 revolution
.long term
bad harvest led to crop shortages
11 1/2 hour working day
failure of wittes economic policy
increase in opopulation- bad conditions
