Observations
-
-
Covert
-
-
-
Care must be taken not to invade people’s privacy. As a rule it is ok to conduct covert observations in public places.
Participant
-
-
-
Researcher bias can occur so it’s likely that the researcher will influence the action taking place.
-
Non-participant
-
more likely to remain objective but they may lose valuable insight as they are too removed from the participants behaviour.
-
Time Sampling
observations made for set lengths of time at set intervals. Eg Bandura observed the children’s aggressive behaviour every 5 secs for 20 mins.
We observe behaviour, record it, look for patterns and then try to make sense of it.
