speaking and listening exam: competitive swimming
equipment (which swimmers use)
pull boy
this is used for when you will only be using your arms and not your legs when swimming
kickboard
this is used when you are only going to be using your legs to kick and not use your arms in swimming
snorkle
this is used to you don't have to think about your breathing so you can focus more on your technique
fins
these are used so youre kick is more powerful so you don't have to worry so much about fast kick so you can focus on the rest of your stroke
hand paddles
these are put on your hands so your pull is quicker. some hand paddles can also help with your pull technique as they can be designed so your hand must move correctly through the water or they don't work as well and can even start to fall of if you're pull is incorrect.
goggles
these are used so you don't get water in your eyes and help you see underwater and swim better
swimming cap
you put this over your hair so it stays in the cap. these help you go faster in the pool as they reduce the drag so your hair isn't dragging along behind you when you are swimming
swimming costume
these are worn by swimmers and are designed to be fast in the water and light weight, reasonably comfortable and flexible so they are easy to swim in
race suits
these race suits are meant to be tight on you so nothing is dragging along making you go slower. they also have very little resistance so you can glide for longer
netbag
this is a bag made of net so when you come out the pool, the bottom of the bag wont fill up with water when you put your wet equipment in it
goggles case
this is a case to put your goggles in for after swimming. the case is slightly padded in the inside so they don't get scratched and won't get damaged if they are bashed around too much. they can also absorb water in the inside through the fabric so you're goggles will not get mouldy as fast
dry robe
after you have been swimming in training you can easily put on your dry robe so you can dry off and stay warm when you are wet so you don't catch a cold. you could also put this on after you have done one of your events at a competition, but it is usually very warm poolside so you will only put this on when you are starting to feel slightly cold
sliders or flipflops
these are good as they are easy to get on and off. these are also good because in a competition you cant have any big boots or propper shoes other than some kinds of trainers. these are great for competitions and training for both these reasons.
towel
you will use this to dry off after you have been in the pool. these are good for competitions as they are not something you were to keep warm but they just help you dry off so you don't get cold.
