Assessments
Formative Assessments are more designed to monitor students learning throughout the lesson. It also provides ongoing feedback for the teacher to adjust instruction if needed.
Examples of formative assessments: Classroom polls, exit tickets, quick questions to gather feedback of students learning.

Summative Assessments are designed to evaluate students learning at the end of a unit. They tend to have a high point value. These assessments measure the overall learning of different lessons.
Examples : Midterm exams, final projects, end of unit test, district benchmarks

Interim/ Benchmark Assessment testing that is taken throughout the school year. This has little to no student feedback. It is more connected to formal and formative assessment. They help with pre-determine points of time. They are also used to help adjust instructions and get report card and district report grades.
Examples: STARR testing, MAPP testing, 6 week benchmark
Performance Assessment is having students directly show you what they know and are able to do with open-ended tasks.
Examples: Student portfolios, research papers
Diagnostic Assessment are used for teachers to identify what students know and what they can do in different domains to support there learning. They can be viewed as pre-test where teachers can use them to evaluate the students strengths, weaknesses and skills.
Examples: Running Records, DRAs. KWL charts, pre-test
