CONCEPT OF GOD IN PROCESS THEOLOGY
Process theology which developed in 20th century originated in the ideas of whitehead
his ideas have been developed by griffin
GOD IS NOT THE CREATOR
Griffin rejects the traditional christian belief of creation ex nihlo (out of nothing)
he adopts the alternative translation and revised standard version of genesis 1
the universe has always existed; it is uncreated and eternal
it was therefore not created by god
the relationship between god and the universe is panentheistic
they exist together in the same way human mind and human body exist togther
gods role relation to the universe is to persuade it into order and complecity
this attempt has gone on for 13.7 billion years using the process of Big Bang and evolution
the worlds independence of for explains the very slow progress
GOD IS NOT OMNIPOTENT
God does not have unlimited power as he did not create the universe ex nihlo
because it is independent of god, the ever-changing chaotic matter making up the universe is able to resist gods attempts at persuasion
NEGATIVES
Its claim that god isnt omnipotent hors against what many people imagine a divine being should b
a god who is not omnipotent would not truly be a god
especially not a god worthy of worship in the eyes of many christians
POSITIVES
It has support from quantum mechanics
it fits in with the theories of the Big Bang and evolution
its supported by one possible translation of the Hebrew in genesis 1
solves the logical problem of evil
claims possibility rather than certainty
