Assesments
Formative
Definition: Formative assessments are used to gather evidence of students learning. These are done informally and are used to alter instruction based on the feedback given from students.
Caption That: Students will be given two to three photos that are projected on the board that relates to what they just learned. They will then write a caption for each of the photos. Once they have finished all of their captions they will turn in their notecard to the teacher.
Quizzes: Students will be given a quiz that is not for a grade about the topic they just learned. Once they have finished their quiz they will pass it to their partner to grade. Then the students will hand in their quizzes to the teacher. However, the student's grades on their quiz will not count against them in any way.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Interim/Benchmark Assessments are used to assess students learning progress. They are used to see if students are on track with their learning, and are done periodically throughout the school year.
STARR: This is the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness, which measures students' knowledge based on where they should be at the end of the year in their grade level.
I-Station Benchmark Assessments: Students are frequently given benchmark tests through I-station typically every six weeks. These assessments are used to track students' progress in English Langauge Arts throughout the school year.
Summative
Definition: Summative Assessments are used to see what students have learned over an elongated amount of time. These assessments align with what students have recently been taught. Summative assessments are formally given and typically are high-stakes and affect students' grades.
Research Project: Students will be given a list of requirements for a presentation about a specific figure such as a past President. Students will then research that figure and create a proper presentation going into detail about each of the requirements.
Final Exam: Students will be given a final exam at the end of each unit that is taught. These exam grades will be put into the grade book and weigh heavily on their overall average.
Performance
Definition: A Performance Assessment evaluates a student's knowledge and understanding through performing a certain task as opposed to the typical standardized testing.
Portfolios: Students will compile a plethora of their work into a portfolio. This allows the teacher to look at all their work as a whole for an extended amount of time.
Comic Book Strip: Students will create a comic book strip based on an event/topic they learned about. Including illustrations and a brief summary of each box.

Four Corners: Four corners can be used as a pre-assessment before a lesson. This gets your students moving and allows the teacher to see what their students understand/do not understand prior to the lesson.
