Formative
Formative assessment is used to monitor student learning and provide immediate feedback for the teacher to adjust the lesson plans as needed. This type of assessment helps students to identify their strengths and weaknesses.
3-2-1: Students will write down 3 things they have learned, 2 things they found interesting, and 1 question they still have.
Think-pair-share:Students will work in pairs to solve a problem or answer to a question regarding the related topic.
Interim/Benchmark
Interim/benchmark assessments are tests administered at different intervals throughout the school year to check students' grasp on content and guide future instruction. This type of assessment typically fall between formative and summative assessments.
STAAR: A state-wide testing program based on state curriculum standards to see whether a student has mastered specific knowledge of a core subject at a certain grade level.
Chapter Test: A common assessment administered to the students after a chapter of the unit has been completed. The purpose of this is to monitor growth and achievement.
Summative
Summative assessment is used to evaluate student learning at the end of an instructional unit. This type of assessment are often high stakes, because they are formally graded and often heavily weighted.

Midterm: An assessment/exam given to students in the middle of an academic term. They have a bigger impact on a student's overall grade for the class compared to quizzes and tests.
Diagnostic
Diagnostic assessments are pre-assessment tests that assess a student's current knowledge base on the topic to be studied in the course. This type of test is used to help teachers identify what students know and can do in different areas.
Unit Pre-test: A non-graded assessment tool students take to gauge the knowledge they have of the unit. The purpose of this tool is to test a student's existing knowledge before they get started on a new learning unit.
Checklists: A tool that outlines specific assessment criteria for diagnostic evaluation. Checklists are a collaborative tool that allows both the teacher and students to participate equally and allows for self-evaluation.
Performance
Performance assessment is an educational assessment that requires students to demonstrate what they know and are able to do through open-ended tasks. This assessment measures how well students can apply their knowledge and skills through various problems.
Open-ended short response: Students will be encouraged to use their knowledge and skills on a deeper level to answer open-ended questions related to the unit. This will measure student understanding and test their abilities.
Mini Presentations: This activity will require students to use their creativity and skills to illustrate the topic they are presenting. The purpose of this activity will show how well the students can apply their knowledge and skills through a presentation.
