Diagnostic
Diagnostic assessment is defined as a set of questions that will be used as a pre-assessment. Using the scores of the students this will determine what the students know prior to learning the topic or unit.
Exampls: Student surveys, KWL charts, Pre-quiz

Formative
Formative assessment is defined as an assessment that is ongoing to collect data. Based on this data instruction can be modified as needed.
Examples: Quizzes, Discussions, and Exit slips

Interim and Benchmarks
Interim and benchmarks are defined as a comparison of how well a student performs on as assessment compared to a state or uniform standard.

Summative
Summative assessment is defined as an assessment used to determine student learning and academic achievment usually at the end of a unit.
Example: Midterms, End of unit projects, or essays

Performance
Performance assessments are defined as an assessment where students need to demonstrate what they have learned by completing tasks.
Examples: Creating a project, performaning an activity, completing a lab project
